コールブレイクでは標準的な52枚のデッキを使用します。カードの強さはエース（最高）から2（最低）までです。スペードは常に切り札です：スペードのカードは他のどのスートのカードにも勝ちます。カードの配布とプレイは反時計回りで進みます。このゲームでは、「トリック」は「ハンド」と呼ばれ、「ビッド」は「コール」と呼ばれます。
