Palworld developer Pocketpair is finalizing its highly anticipated cross-play update, slated for release in late March 2025. A recent X/Twitter post confirmed this update will introduce cross-platform multiplayer functionality, allowing players across all platforms to team up. It will also add a crucial world transfer feature for Pals. While specifics remain scarce beyond a promotional image depicting a Palworld battle, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, John 'Bucky' Buckley, hinted at "a few little surprises" included in the March update.
This update is excellent news for the 32 million players who've embraced Palworld since its January 2024 early access launch. Pocketpair has unveiled an ambitious 2025 content roadmap, including the cross-play feature, a concluding "ending scenario," and additional content for this popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld's initial launch was a phenomenal success. Priced at $30 on Steam and simultaneously available on Xbox and PC Game Pass, it shattered sales and concurrent player records. The game's success was so significant that Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe stated the studio was initially overwhelmed by the sheer volume of profits generated. Capitalizing on this momentum, Pocketpair swiftly partnered with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, a new venture dedicated to expanding the IP and bringing the game to the PS5.
However, the studio faces a legal challenge from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who allege Palworld infringes on multiple patent rights and are seeking an injunction and damages. Pocketpair has responded by publicly identifying the patents in question and has already implemented changes to the Pal summoning mechanic. The studio remains resolute, vowing to defend its position in court, stating: “We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings.”
