Gameplay Trailer Showcases Rhythm-Based Action and Boss Battles
The trailer, released during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, showcases Ratatan's unique blend of rhythm game mechanics and side-scrolling action. A thrilling boss battle against a giant crab highlights the intense, strategic gameplay. The trailer also emphasizes the game's online co-op mode, allowing up to four players to engage in massive battles featuring over 100 characters.
Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani and featuring music by the original Patapon composer Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan's Kickstarter campaign successfully surpassed its console launch stretch goal, securing its release on multiple platforms.
Closed Beta Commences February 27, 2025
Ratatan's closed beta test is scheduled to begin on February 27, 2025. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared exciting updates, including the game exceeding 100,000 Steam wishlists and receiving positive feedback on the original soundtrack demo. While the game won't be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is prioritizing the closed beta and focusing on a refined demo for the June Steam Next Fest.
The closed beta will initially feature Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 added during the month-long test period. Beta key distribution details will be announced via Discord and X.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A precise release date remains unannounced.
