Mastering Weapon and Armor Upgrades in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide
Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly challenging enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor in Avowed.
Upgrade Locations: Workbenches
Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above). These require specific materials, varying by weapon/armor type and quality. Many materials are readily available in the game world or craftable. However, advancing a weapon's quality requires progressively rarer Adra.
Workbenches are situated at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. Locate a Waystone, interact with it, and choose the option to set up camp. These camps are marked on your map with a tent icon, enabling fast travel.
Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels
Avowed uses a two-tiered system for gear power: Quality and additional upgrade tiers.
-
Quality: This is indicated by a numerical value, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and descriptive adjective. It directly correlates to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Lower-quality gear is ineffective against higher-level foes. Weapons and armor perform optimally against enemies of the same or lower quality level.
-
Additional Upgrades: Within each Quality level (+0 to +3), three additional upgrade tiers exist. While less impactful than quality increases, they still boost stats. All three tiers must be upgraded before advancing to the next Quality level.
Prioritizing Upgrades: Unique vs. Standard Gear
Avowed features standard and unique weapons/armor. Standard gear is common loot or merchant purchases. Unique items are named, special pieces obtained through quests or boss drops; some are sold by merchants.
Unique gear can reach Legendary Quality, unlike standard gear (which maxes at Superb). Unique items also possess superior bonuses and perks. Therefore, prioritize upgrading unique gear, reserving resources for these enhancements. Standard gear serves as temporary equipment and can be sold or salvaged for upgrade materials.
In summary: Upgrade your weapons and armor at Workbenches located at Party Camps. Prioritize upgrading unique gear to its maximum potential, utilizing standard items strategically until you find better unique alternatives.
Avowed is available now on PC and Xbox.
