Dishonored 2 Gets Surprise Update 9 Years After Launch

Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title, has received a small, unexpected update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The update, weighing in at a mere 230MB (though requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), appears to primarily address bug fixes and language support. This comes as a surprise, given Arkane Lyon's current focus on Marvel's Blade.

Released in late 2016, Dishonored 2 introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, expanding upon the acclaimed gameplay and intricate level design of its predecessor. While Arkane Lyon, the developer of Dishonored 2 and Deathloop (2021), continues its work on the Marvel project, the closure of Arkane Austin (responsible for the original Dishonored, Prey, and Redfall) in 2024 has undoubtedly impacted Arkane's development capacity.

The recent patch for Dishonored 2 has unfortunately disappointed some fans hoping for a performance enhancement. Unlike other Arkane titles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS on current-generation consoles. The lack of a 60 FPS mode, especially considering the original Dishonored and its spin-off, Death of the Outsider, both received performance boosts, has fueled speculation about a potential future update, perhaps coinciding with the game's tenth anniversary in 2026. However, the likelihood of a new mainline Dishonored game remains uncertain, further complicated by the closure of Arkane Austin. For now, Arkane Lyon's attention remains firmly on its collaboration with Marvel Games for Marvel's Blade, a project without a confirmed release date.
