Master the art of parrying in Avowed and turn enemy attacks into devastating counter-offensives! This guide details how to unlock and effectively utilize the parry mechanic.
Unlocking the Parry Ability:
The parry ability isn't available from the start. Navigate to the Abilities menu, select the "Ranger" tab, and locate the Parry ability in the top middle column. You'll need to allocate an ability point to any of the three core skill trees to unlock it. Parry has three ranks, each requiring a specific player level:
Rank | Player Level Requirement | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | N/A (1 Point Spent) | Unlocks the Parry ability. |
2 | 5 | 25% increased parry efficiency, greater enemy stun. |
3 | 8 | 50% increased parry efficiency, greater enemy stun. |
At level 10, unlock "Arrow Deflection" to parry projectiles.
Executing a Parry:
Time your block just before an enemy attack connects. A metallic clang and visual cue indicate a successful parry, stunning your opponent. Mastering the timing requires practice, but it's less demanding than in games like Dark Souls.
Parry Limitations:
Not all attacks are parryable; a red circle signifies attacks requiring a dodge. Furthermore, only melee weapons (one-handed, two-handed, or a shield in your off-hand) can parry. Ranged weapons and grimoires cannot be used for parrying.
Benefits of Parrying:
Parrying stuns enemies, creating openings for significant damage. It's particularly effective for melee builds, allowing damage mitigation and increased offensive opportunities. However, ranged-focused characters may find it less beneficial. Avowed's respec system allows easy adjustment if you decide to change your approach.
