Unlocking Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley
Initially, Stardew Valley limited players to a single pet. However, the 1.6 update changed this, allowing multiple companions. To unlock this feature, you must first maximize your existing pet's friendship level. Daily interaction is key: fill their water bowl (except on rainy/snowy days) and pet them (indicated by a heart). Monitor their friendship using the "Animals" tab in the pause menu. A full friendship meter triggers a message from Marnie, opening the door to adopting more pets. If you skipped the initial pet adoption, Marnie's message arrives at the start of Year 2.
Adopting Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley
After receiving Marnie's message, visit her shop (9 AM - 4 PM, closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Select the "Adopt Pets" option. Twelve pet licenses are available: five cat variations, five dog variations, and two turtles. Each license has a cost:

Obtaining Pet Supplies in Stardew Valley
Essential: Purchase Pet Bowls from Robin's shop. These are crucial for maintaining pet friendship and preventing them from running away. Each bowl costs 5,000g and 25 Hardwood. Consider building these before adopting new pets.
Optional: Marnie sells decorative items like doghouses and cat trees, but these don't affect friendship.
