"Ultimate Engine Tweaks Mod Boosts 'Oblivion' PC Performance"

Authore: ScarlettUpdate:May 01,2025

If you're among the many fans of *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered* on PC, you might have encountered several performance issues. According to tech analysts at Digital Foundry, the remastered version suffers from severe performance problems. Video producer Alex Battaglia labeled it "perhaps one of the worst-running games I've ever tested for Digital Foundry."

"Even with the most powerful hardware, the stuttering is egregious, significantly diminishing the gaming experience to the extent that it's baffling how it was deemed acceptable for release," Battaglia noted. He further remarked that the game is unusually resource-intensive, forcing players to lower settings just to maintain an acceptable frame rate, even if they can tolerate the stuttering.

PlayGiven these issues, it's not surprising that the most popular mod for *Oblivion Remastered* on Nexus Mods is P40L0's 'Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),' which has been downloaded an impressive 386,604 times within a week.

The mod's description reads, "Definitive Unreal 'Engine.ini' changes with the goal to remove most stutters, improve performance and stability, decrease input latency, and improve picture clarity—all without any visual loss."

P40L0 explained, "After months of UE5 testing, I wanted to share my definitive custom 'Engine.ini' changes for the game. My objective was to incorporate as many optimizations as possible for CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD to eliminate most stuttering, boost performance, minimize input latency, and enhance image quality by removing Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration, optimizing DLSS/FSR upscaling, and more, all while avoiding visual degradation or introducing glitches or crashes."

Feedback from users who have installed the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. "Stutter be gone! Simply amazing, thanks!" exclaimed chubbyd07. "This .ini is a miracle. My frame rate went from 15-20 fps outside the prison to a stable 65-70. I'm running on a 3600XT, a 2060, and 20GB of RAM," reported yeeto51. "Uhm, what the hell! I went from 60fps on High Preset around Waynon Priory to 90-110fps in the same spot. Wizardry!!" marveled BabaSmith.

Despite its PC performance issues, *Oblivion Remastered* remains incredibly popular, boasting a high peak concurrent player count on Steam and over 4 million players across all platforms. It has earned a 'very positive' user review rating on Steam.

However, a recent hotfix deployed on April 25 has impacted Microsoft Store players' ability to adjust UI settings for graphics, particularly related to upscaling and anti-aliasing. At the time of writing, those playing via Game Pass for PC cannot modify these settings due to the issue with the settings UI. Bethesda is actively working on a solution.
