OBD2 Diagnostics - Read and Clear Fault Codes & Access Real-Time Sensor Data

Piston puts your car's diagnostic information right at your fingertips.

Is your Check Engine Light (MIL) on? Use Piston to turn your mobile device into a car scanner. Read the related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and Freeze Frame data to help you identify and resolve the issue.

You'll need an ELM327-based Bluetooth or WiFi adapter connected to your vehicle's OBD2 port. Piston guides you through the connection process. Access the instructions from the Home page after installation or anytime via Settings.

With Piston you can:

• Read and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) as defined by the OBD2 standard

• Review Freeze Frame data (a snapshot of sensor readings when the ECU detected a fault)

• Access real-time data from your vehicle's sensors

• Check the status of Readiness Monitors (for emission control systems)

• Save the DTCs you read to a local history

• Login to store your read DTCs in the cloud

• View charts of sensor readouts

• Export real-time sensor data to a file

• Check your car's VIN number

• Examine ECU details, such as the OBD protocol and supported PIDs

To function as a car scanner, this application requires a separate ELM327-based Bluetooth or WiFi device. Piston is compatible with OBD-II (also known as OBDII or OBD2) and EOBD standards.

All vehicles sold in the USA from 1996 onward are required to support the OBD2 standard.

In the European Union, EOBD became mandatory for petrol vehicles from 2001 and for diesel vehicles from 2004. In Australia and New Zealand, OBD2 is required for all petrol cars made from 2006 and diesel cars from 2007.

Important: This application can only access the data that your vehicle supports and provides via the OBD2 standard.
