Le producteur exécutif Marcus Morgan explique comment le développement sur Xbox One avait limité leurs ambitions : "Nous avions commencé Grounded 1 sur la Xbox One originelle. Et nous manquions littéralement d'espace pour intégrer des éléments dans le jeu." Le passage à Unreal Engine 5 pour la suite a permis à l'équipe de créer un monde bien plus vaste spécialement conçu pour les déplacements à dos de créatures.

"Le défi était que nous n'avions pas conçu tous les espaces pour ce nouveau style de jeu", poursuit Morgan. "Quand vous modifiez la vitesse de déplacement, vous devez repenser la distance entre [les points d'intérêt], la manière de traverser les terrains, d'aborder les espaces intérieurs - rien de cela n'avait été prévu pour les montures dans le premier jeu."

Obsidian s'associe à Eidos Montreal (créateurs de Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy) pour développer Grounded 2.
