Minecraft Campfire Mastery: Extinguishing and Obtaining

The Minecraft Campfire, introduced in version 1.14, is more than just a decorative block. It offers a surprising range of uses: mob and player damage, smoke signals, cooking, and even bee calming. This guide focuses on extinguishing and acquiring this versatile block, unlocking its full potential.

Extinguishing a Campfire

Three methods efficiently extinguish Minecraft campfires:

  • Water Bucket: The simplest approach involves waterlogging. Use a water bucket to pour water directly onto the Campfire's block.
  • Splash Water Potion: While effective, this method is resource-intensive early in the game, requiring gunpowder and glass. Throw the potion onto the fire.
  • Shovel: This is the most cost-effective and often overlooked method. Right-click (or use the left trigger on consoles) the Campfire with any shovel, even a wooden one.

Obtaining a Campfire

Acquiring a Campfire is straightforward:

  • Natural Generation: Explore Taiga and Snowy Taiga villages, and Ancient City camps. Note: Harvesting pre-placed Campfires requires a Silk Touch enchanted tool; otherwise, you'll only receive coal (two in Java, four in Bedrock).
  • Crafting: Combine sticks, wood, and charcoal (or soul sand) for a regular or soul fire Campfire respectively.
  • Trading: Barter with an apprentice fisherman. The emerald cost varies (five in Bedrock, two in Java).
