The day-one patch for Monster Hunter Wilds has arrived, boasting a surprisingly large 18GB file size. While substantial, downloading this update is highly recommended for optimal gameplay performance. Initially released for PlayStation 5, Capcom plans to roll it out across other platforms. Patch notes detailing specific changes remain unavailable at this time.
Speculation points to the inclusion of high-resolution textures, a feature absent from review copies, accounting for the significant file size. The patch may also incorporate PS5 Pro enhancements, aligning with Capcom's confirmation of PS5 Pro support at launch. Bug fixes are another likely component, addressing any remaining issues before widespread player access.

Despite its "day-one" designation, pre-ordered players may download the patch before the official release. Players with slower internet connections should prioritize installation before February 28th for a smoother launch experience.
It's important to note this is primarily a performance and bug-fix update (version 1.000.020), not a content patch. New content will arrive via post-launch DLC. Three paid DLC packs are planned, supplemented by two free content updates. The first free DLC, featuring Mizutsune and event quests, is slated for spring release, with further additions, including new monsters and missions, expected in the summer.
Monster Hunter Wilds launches on PC and consoles February 28th.
