Player First Games announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus, its Warner Bros. platform fighter. Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the game's last, concluding on May 30th, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio detailed the shutdown in a blog post.
Online play will cease on May 30th, but offline access to purchased and earned content will remain available via local and training modes. The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude to players and supporters in a statement.

Real-money transactions are discontinued, effective immediately. However, Gleamium and character tokens can still be used until May 30th. The game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store concurrently.
MultiVersus' closure follows reports of its underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million total for the games sector. This news follows the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.
"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” stated chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels in a November financial call.
Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will introduce new content, including playable characters Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass). Both debut next week.
