A Mega Evolution with a Villainous Vibe

Pokémon Legends: Z-A has introduced its fourth new Mega Evolution: Mega Malamar, sporting a design that many fans are comparing to a classic "supervillain" look. This new Mega Pokémon made its debut in a news-style short shared across The Pokémon Company’s official social media accounts, accompanied by a surprisingly sinister twist.

Mega Evolutions are temporary transformations that enhance a select group of Pokémon into more powerful forms. In this new state, Malamar gains a significantly enlarged brain, longer, scythe-like tentacles, and a surge in psychic power—visible as a vibrant, kaleidoscopic energy flowing throughout its body.

Fans quickly pointed out Mega Malamar's unusual appearance, noting its massive head, slender body, and lengthy tendrils resembling a human brain connected to a central nervous system. Others observed that the shoulder pad-shaped tentacles enhance its resemblance to a large-headed, classic supervillain.

Even the official Pokémon X (formerly Twitter) account nodded to this theme, sharing a screenshot of Mega Malamar with the caption “NEW MEGA?” styled after the famous Megamind meme—another iconic, big-brained antagonist.

Powerful Hypnotic Abilities and an Arrogant Attitude

With the looks and the memes—not to mention the full backing of The Pokémon Company’s marketing—Mega Malamar appears to be more than just a stylish nod to supervillain tropes.

Thanks to Mega Evolution, its already formidable hypnotic abilities have grown even stronger. It’s now capable of completely overwriting the personalities and memories of others—an ability it demonstrated in its debut trailer by turning several citizens of Lumiose City, including its own Trainer, into devoted Malamar followers.

According to the official site, Mega Malamar views other Pokémon and people merely as “pawns.” With heightened intelligence and independent analytical skills during battle, it may even hypnotize its own Pokémon Trainer if it disagrees with their commands.

While its Dark/Psychic typing remains unchanged, The Pokémon Company has yet to detail exactly how Mega Malamar’s memory-altering hypnosis and malevolent personality will function in the game.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A launches on October 16, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. For the latest updates on future Mega Evolution reveals, be sure to check out our article below.
