The Last of Us Season 2 Will Include Cut Content from the Game
The upcoming second season of HBO's The Last of Us will incorporate story elements that were originally removed from The Last of Us Part II video game, according to series co-creator Neil Druckmann.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Druckmann revealed the show will revive some "particularly intense" scenes included in the Lost Levels - additional content restored in The Last of Us Part II Remastered for PlayStation 5. These include three previously discarded sequences: Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers.
While the first two offer more subdued moments of Ellie at a community gathering and tracking wounded prey, the third plunges players back into the game's signature horror as Ellie navigates monster-infested underground tunnels.
Familiar Faces and New Threats
Druckmann hinted one "significant" character only referenced in the game will physically appear in Season 2, mirroring how Frank's story was expanded in Season 1. The new episodes will introduce crucial characters from Part II including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, though Catherine O'Hara's undisclosed role remains a mystery.
With the premiere scheduled for April, many questions will soon be answered - though some may linger. HBO plans to span The Last of Us Part II's dense narrative across multiple seasons, unlike Season 1's complete adaptation of the first game. Co-creator Craig Mazin confirmed Season 2 will reach a "natural stopping point" after just seven episodes, leaving room for future continuation.
