Lords of the Fallen 2.5 Update Drops Hours Before Game Awards Sequel Reveal

CI Games, the publisher of Lords of the Fallen, has announced and launched a surprise final update for its 2023 title, arriving just hours before its sequel is showcased at The Game Awards tonight.

Today's Version 2.5 release marks the culmination of a substantial post-launch journey for this action RPG. While the game initially received mixed reviews, a series of major patches has successfully improved player sentiment over time.

This update follows the previously declared "final" Version 2.0 patch, which itself succeeded a similar claim for Version 1.5. Responding to continued community feedback, CI Games has crafted one last package that refines enemy and boss AI and introduces a new Veteran Mode, designed as the game's ultimate challenge.

"Our philosophy has always been player-first," CI Games creative strategist Ryan Hill told IGN. "Version 2.0 in April was a massive step, but we knew we could do more. The community expressed a clear desire for a tougher experience from standard enemies and boss encounters, so we revisited and enhanced those systems.

"Version 2.5 delivers major improvements to Legacy Mode—featuring new behaviors, attack patterns, and heightened aggression from foes. It also adds a brand-new difficulty tier, Veteran Mode, for those seeking the most demanding climb. We're delighted to provide this final major update free to all our players as a sincere thank-you for their ongoing support and as a preview of what's to come in Lords of the Fallen II next year."

Established bosses now possess new tactics, with even more punishing variants calibrated for Veteran Mode. Overcoming these heightened challenges yields exclusive rewards, including unique boss weapon attack animations and a distinctive breastplate for conquering Veteran Mode.

CI Games had previously announced that "big news" for Lords of the Fallen II would be part of The Game Awards 2025. Stay tuned to IGN for live coverage of all the major announcements from the event.
