Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has released a new trailer for their upcoming sci-fi adventure, The Alters, highlighting its connection to their critically acclaimed war survival game, This War of Mine. While This War of Mine, released over a decade ago, is renowned for its grim portrayal of war, The Alters offers a more vibrant, humorous narrative focused on the struggles of alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite their contrasting tones, both games share a core theme: survival.
In This War of Mine, players grapple with the harsh realities of war within a besieged city, meticulously managing resources and facing daily challenges to keep their civilian group alive. The Alters, however, presents survival as a desperate race against time, demanding players constantly relocate their mobile base to escape a relentless, dust-inducing sun.
Both games challenge players to venture into perilous environments in search of vital resources. The key difference lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine guides players through the experiences of a group of ordinary civilians, while The Alters features a unique team comprised of alternate versions of the same character.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on launch day.
