Alienware's Area-51 Now Supports RTX 5090 Graphics Card

Authore: BellaUpdate:Apr 03,2025

Dell has revitalized the iconic Alienware Area-51 lineup of prebuilt gaming PCs this year, and now, there's an exciting new option available. Until recently, the only graphics card you could configure with these systems was the RTX 5080. However, that's changed. You can now equip your Alienware Area-51 with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, starting at $5,499.99. The best part? You won't have to wait long; Dell estimates shipping to begin in early April.

The $5,500 configuration might be labeled as the "base" model for an Alienware Area-51 equipped with an RTX 5090 GPU, but don't let the price fool you; it comes with top-tier specs. This system boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a 2TB NVMe SSD. The Core Ultra 9 285K is Intel's latest flagship CPU, delivering exceptional performance for both gaming and workstation tasks. While it doesn't offer the significant leap we hoped for from the i9-14900K, it's currently the best Intel has to offer. The processor is kept cool by a robust 360mm all-in-one liquid cooler, and the system is powered by a 1,500W 80Plus Platinum-rated power supply, ensuring it's ready for the most demanding tasks.

New for 2025: The Alienware Area-51 Chassis

Dell introduced the new Alienware Area-51 gaming PC at CES 2025. The updated chassis retains the essence of the 2024 R16 system but features significant aesthetic and cooling enhancements. The I/O panel has been relocated to the top of the case, and the tempered glass window now covers the entire side panel, eliminating the need for side panel vents. Air intakes are now positioned at the bottom and front of the case, promoting a positive airflow design that helps keep the interior cleaner. Internally, the system has been upgraded with a new motherboard, faster RAM, and a more powerful power supply to support the latest CPUs and GPUs.

The RTX 5090 Is the Most Powerful Graphics Card Ever

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 stands as the pinnacle of consumer GPUs on the market. While Nvidia has focused on software enhancements, AI capabilities, and DLSS 4 technology to boost gameplay performance, the RTX 5090 still offers a remarkable 25%-30% increase in raw hardware-based raster performance compared to the RTX 4090. Additionally, it features more (32GB vs 24GB) and faster (GDDR7 vs GDDR6) VRAM. This GPU is scarce at retail prices and often sells for $3,500-$4,000 on platforms like eBay.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE Review by Jackie Thomas

"The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has officially surpassed the RTX 4090 in performance, though the generational improvement is less pronounced than in previous models. For traditional, non-AI gaming, the RTX 5090 offers a modest uplift. However, in games that support DLSS 4, the performance gains are substantial – albeit with the caveat that 75% of the frames are AI-generated."
