How to Choose a Faction In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Authore: BenjaminUpdate:Feb 24,2025

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, like its predecessors, players engage in exhilarating combat across ancient China, aligning themselves with various warlords. However, choosing a faction is a crucial decision. This guide explains the faction selection process.

Understanding Factions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The game unfolds across chapters. Initially, the Wanderer (the player character) remains unaffiliated, assisting Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei in battles such as the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate.

Chapter 3 presents the pivotal choice: selecting a faction. Before this point, the game provides opportunities to interact with each faction.

To progress, complete a specific number of missions for each faction: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Completing these unlocks a mission forcing a faction choice. Only factions with completed missions are selectable. You can complete all missions before committing.

Your choice is permanent. The unchosen faction becomes unavailable for side quests and bond increases, potentially impacting gameplay difficulty. For example, aligning with Liu Bei, who initially has fewer officers, limits early skill point acquisition opportunities.

Each faction offers unique missions. To experience all content, create a save before choosing a kingdom, allowing for replays with different allegiances.

Faction selection in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is straightforward but impactful. The game is available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
