"Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment Revealed for Nintendo Switch 2"

It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda title, and the Nintendo Switch 2 continues this tradition with an unexpected twist. During today's Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that Koei Tecmo is developing a new addition to the Hyrule Warriors series: a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. Excitingly, this game is slated for release this winter.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is another thrilling entry in the Hyrule Warriors series, featuring the iconic characters from the ancient history segments of Tears of the Kingdom. This includes beloved characters like Zelda, alongside Rauru, Sonia, and the other Secret Stone holders. The game delves into Zelda's actions during the events of Tears of the Kingdom, where she journeys back in time to ally with the last of the Zonai tribe, including Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to battle against Ganondorf and his forces.

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of these champions, featuring Mineru piloting her mech, Zelda wielding her magic, Rauru with his intriguing sword-spear, and brief appearances of other Sacred Stone wielders.

This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which provided a prequel narrative to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity was particularly notable for its fresh take on the Breath of the Wild storyline, earning a 9/10 from us for being "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish." It will be fascinating to see if Age of Imprisonment follows suit with its own unique narrative twists.
