The developer behind *inZOI* recently issued an apology for including Denuvo DRM in their game and has committed to removing it. This decision comes after significant community feedback regarding the controversial anti-tamper software, which has long been criticized for impacting game performance. Denuvo DRM is designed to combat unauthorized copying and distribution of PC games, making it challenging for individuals to pirate and distribute cracked versions of the game.
In a Steam blog post dated March 26, inZOI Director Hyungjun 'Kjun' Kim announced that the Early Access build, slated for release on Friday, would be devoid of any DRM technology. Kim explained, "We initially chose to implement Denuvo as a way to protect the game from illegal distribution. At the time, we believed this would help ensure fairness for players who had properly purchased the game. However, after taking a closer look at community feedback, we quickly realized that this approach did not align with what our players wanted." He also extended an apology for not informing players about Denuvo's inclusion in the Creative Studio mode demo. Kim acknowledged that while removing DRM might increase the risk of illegal distribution, it would enhance the game's moddability, thus offering players greater freedom to customize and create unique experiences. He expressed his belief that "enabling this freedom from the very beginning will lead to innovative and long-lasting enjoyment for the community."
inZOI Will No Longer Have Denuvo DRM
The decision to remove Denuvo DRM from *inZOI* has been welcomed by the gaming community, especially given the game's focus on being highly moddable. Kim reiterated the game's commitment to modding, stating, "As I mentioned during the Online Showcase, we are committed to making inZOI a highly moddable game. Our first stage of official mod support will launch in May, allowing players to use tools like Maya and Blender to create custom content. But this is only the beginning. Over time, we plan to expand mod support across more areas of the game, so you can customize and enhance your experience in many different ways."
He also announced that a separate post would provide more details about modding. Krafton, the company behind *inZOI*, continues to prioritize player feedback, making necessary adjustments to ensure a high-quality gaming experience.
