In an insightful interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon delved into the exciting details about how Mortal Kombat 1 will handle the iconic characters Omni-Man and Homelander. Boon's discussion with IGN shed light on the game developers' strategy to ensure that these two powerful figures from different universes will offer distinct gameplay experiences.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
Addressing fans' concerns about potential similarities in combat styles, Boon emphasized that the development team at NetherRealm Studios is committed to differentiating Omni-Man and Homelander. He explained that the creative freedom granted to the team allows them to explore a wide range of ideas for each character, ensuring they don't end up with overlapping Superman-like abilities. Boon stated, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that."
Boon further elaborated on how the team has drawn inspiration from the characters' actions in their respective shows to craft unique Fatalities. He assured fans that the core movesets for Omni-Man and Homelander will be markedly different, dispelling any notions that the two might be mere clones of each other. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon noted.
