Television audiences won't need to wait long for more workplace comedy - NBCUniversal has greenlit Season 2 of The Office spinoff The Paper before its September 4 premiere on Peacock. The unprecedented early renewal comes after overwhelmingly positive industry reactions to the new series.
Record-Breaking Renewal Timing
Peacock and NBCUniversal made television history by renewing the Dunder Mifflin-inspired series just 24 hours before its streaming debut. The confidence stems from early screenings that impressed executives, bypassing the traditional wait for premiere viewership data.
Series leads Domhnall Gleeson (stepping into the Michael Scott-esque role) and White Lotus standout Sabrina Impacciatore broke the news during their Today show appearance to promote the premiere. "We're thrilled audiences will get more of our dysfunctional newsroom family," Gleeson told hosts.
Behind-the-Scenes Development
Co-creator Greg Daniels confirmed writing for Season 2 was already underway with showrunner Michael Koman. The creative team anticipates a 2026 release, maintaining The Office's signature mockumentary format by using the same documentary crew that filmed Dunder Mifflin.
"The writers' room has been buzzing with ideas," Daniels revealed to Variety. "While we've received fantastic internal feedback, we're eager to see how Office Nation embraces this new chapter in the universe."
All 10 episodes of Season 1 debut September 4, following Gleeson's ensemble of quirky journalists through the lens of the familiar documentary crew. The renewal ensures at least two seasons of The Paper's newsroom misadventures will join The Office's streaming legacy.
