WB Reportedly Cancels Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Paid DLC

Authore: AidenUpdate:Mar 28,2025

According to a report by Bloomberg, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion was set to be released this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came after concerns that the content volume did not justify the intended price, as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. chose not to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.

This move comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, which has been grappling with financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company also canceled a planned Wonder Woman game, shut down the development studio Monolith Productions, and closed other studios including WB San Diego and the MultiVersus developer, Player First Games. Additionally, there were layoffs at Rocksteady Studios just last September.

Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the Harry Potter franchise within its portfolio. The company has publicly stated that Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter universe are among its most valuable assets, with a sequel to the game being described as "one of the biggest priorities." This focus aligns with Warner Bros.' strategy to concentrate on fewer but larger franchises. The original Hogwarts Legacy game has achieved significant commercial success, selling over 30 million copies.
