How to Play Çanak Okey

Çanak Okey is typically played with four players. Each player uses a cue stick to sort their tiles. The tiles come in four colors: Red, Black, Yellow, and Blue, numbered from 1 to 13. There are also two fake okeys in the game, making a total of 106 tiles.

At the start, all tiles are shuffled and automatically distributed among the players. The player next to the dealer receives 15 tiles, while the others get 14. Players then organize their tiles into groups of pairs or sets based on their cues.

The remaining tiles are placed in the middle of the table, with one tile revealed to serve as the indicator stone. The tile matching the indicator stone's color and number becomes the Okey Stone, which can be used as a wild card for any tile in the game.

In Çanak Okey, if you finish your hand by discarding an Okey Stone, your points are doubled. The normal arrangement involves creating sets of at least three tiles either in sequences of the same color or in groups of the same number across different colors.

To win by lining up pairs, a player needs to arrange all their tiles into pairs, and upon forming seven pairs, they end the game by placing the last tile in the center. The indicator rule involves a deduction of 2 points if the player shows an Okey colored indicator stone at the start of their turn.

Finishing the game can be done in various ways. A normal finish earns 2 points from other players if the last discarded tile is not an Okey, or 4 points if it is. Completing the game with seven pairs also deducts 4 points from opponents. If a player completes a full sequence of all tiles in one color from 1 to 13, their opponents' scores drop to zero, ending the game. An uneven sequence of the same color results in an 8-point deduction from other players.
