Authore: AmeliaUpdate:May 13,2025

Alienware has unveiled its new mainstream lineup of gaming laptops for 2025, named the "Alienware Aurora." The initial 16" models are now available for purchase at Dell. The Alienware Aurora 16, starting at $1,949.99, is the more budget-friendly option, equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP. In contrast, the higher-end Alienware Aurora 16X, priced at $2,299.99, boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP. These models are expected to begin shipping in mid-June. Additionally, both the Aurora 16 and 16X can be pre-ordered with an RTX 5060 GPU, though no shipping date has been confirmed due to the GPU's pending release.

The Alienware Aurora laptops feature a departure from the typical gamer-centric design seen in other Alienware models, such as the recently launched Area-51. These laptops adopt a more conventional, sleek profile with minimal RGB lighting. The Aurora 16, for instance, only features white keyboard backlighting reminiscent of Apple MacBooks. Despite their understated exteriors, both the Aurora 16 and 16X are powered by high-performance components and incorporate a sophisticated Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is designed to be thinner and lighter, thanks to its efficient components like the low-voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and the RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP. Conversely, the Aurora 16X, being slightly thicker and heavier, accommodates enhanced cooling to support its more robust Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and the RTX 5070 GPU at a 115W TGP.

Compared to the Alienware Area-51, which starts at over $3,000, the Aurora laptops are significantly more affordable and portable, being up to 1.6 pounds lighter and 30% thinner. Given the current market trends, with Nvidia GPU prices potentially increasing (as noted by Tom's Hardware), it's unlikely that prices will drop soon.

Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model

For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Alienware Aurora 16X is the clear choice. The additional $300 offers substantial upgrades that justify the price premium. Here's what you get with the Aurora 16X:

  • Superior Display: 2560x1600 resolution with 240Hz refresh rate and G-Sync, versus the Aurora 16's 120Hz.
  • More Powerful CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX compared to the Intel Core 9 270H.
  • Enhanced GPU Performance: RTX 5070 with a higher 115W TGP versus the 85W TGP.
  • Increased Memory and Storage: 64GB RAM and 2TB storage, doubling the Aurora 16's 32GB RAM and 1TB storage.
  • Premium Build: Metal top and bottom, versus just a metal top on the Aurora 16.
  • RGB Keyboard and Thunderbolt 4.0: Additional features not available on the Aurora 16.
