AMC Slashes Midweek Ticket Prices by 50% Starting July

Wednesday is set to become a must-visit day for movie lovers, as AMC Theaters have announced they will be slashing ticket prices by half on Wednesdays. This move aims to draw more audiences during the mid-week lull, making it an irresistible offer for cinephiles. Yes, you read that correctly: ticket prices will be reduced by half.

According to a statement from the company reported by Bloomberg, this all-day discount will be calculated based on the standard adult evening ticket price and will take effect starting July 9. One of the most exciting aspects of this discount is that it applies to premium showings as well, such as IMAX or 4DX. This is a fantastic deal, especially considering the high cost of an IMAX ticket, making it a budget-friendly option for families and groups alike.

The movie industry has faced significant challenges since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which drastically reduced attendance and caused a major financial hit due to plummeting ticket sales. While there has been a gradual recovery, the sector is still not back to its pre-pandemic levels. However, AMC CEO Adam Aron remains optimistic about the future.

Aron noted that the first quarter experienced low box office turnout, which he referred to as an "anomaly." However, he believes this issue has been resolved, pointing to the strong performances of recent releases such as A Minecraft Movie and Sinners. Since April 1, ticket sales have been robust, bolstered by the impressive domestic box office earnings of these films. A Minecraft Movie has grossed an astonishing $408 million to date, while Sinners has accumulated $215 million and is still counting.

The summer blockbuster season is just kicking off, with highly anticipated films like Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning and Disney's live-action Lilo and Stitch on the horizon. Additionally, Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are slated for a July release. With such a promising lineup, the box office is poised for a significant boost, and AMC's new Wednesday discount initiative is expected to play a key role in driving these numbers even higher.
