Larian Studios, the creators of the critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3, have announced a media blackout as they shift their focus entirely to their next, unannounced project. While Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 is slated for release later this year, Larian's CEO, Swen Vincke, confirmed the studio's full attention is now dedicated to this new endeavor.

Vincke's recent tweet expressed a sense of accomplishment regarding Baldur's Gate 3's success, hinting at future projects while acknowledging the need for a creative reset. A subsequent statement to VideoGamer reiterated this commitment, officially declaring a media blackout for the foreseeable future.

Details about Larian's next game remain scarce. What we know is that it will not be a Baldur's Gate sequel or any other D&D-related title. Instead, it's an entirely original creation, a departure Larian actively pursued after internal discussions revealed a lack of enthusiasm for a direct Baldur's Gate follow-up.

Previous statements from Vincke offer only vague hints. In November 2023, he alluded to a project that would push boundaries, expressing excitement about its potential. Earlier, in July 2023, he mentioned the possibility of a future Divinity: Original Sin sequel, but emphasized that it wouldn't be the immediate next project.

The nature of Larian's next game remains shrouded in mystery. Given their history with fantasy RPGs, the possibilities are vast. A shift to science fiction, a contemporary setting, or even a completely new genre are all within the realm of speculation. It's highly likely that significant time, potentially years, will pass before any concrete information is released.
