Black Beacon Global Beta: A Hands-On Look at the Gacha Action-RPG

Black Beacon, the gacha action-RPG, recently launched its global beta test. Intrigued? Read on for our in-depth review after spending the weekend playing the beta.

Setting and Story

The game unfolds within the Library of Babel, a setting inspired by Jorge Luis Borges' short story and the biblical Tower of Babel. This unique blend of literary and religious references creates a compelling backdrop, reminiscent of works like Evangelion.

Players assume the role of The Seer, inexplicably awakening in the Library with a significant destiny: becoming the custodian of this vast, mysterious place. The Seer's arrival triggers a series of events, including a monstrous emergence from the depths, time-travel elements, and a looming threat from a clockwork star. The narrative is intriguing and keeps you engaged.

Gameplay

Black Beacon offers a 3D free-roaming experience with adjustable camera perspectives (top-down or free camera). Real-time combat is the core gameplay loop, featuring fluid combos and strategic character switching. This tag-team system allows benched characters to regenerate stamina quickly, encouraging dynamic team management. Combat is engaging, demanding timing and awareness of enemy attacks, preventing mindless button-mashing. The diverse roster of characters, each with unique combat styles, adds depth and replayability.

Playing the Beta

The global beta is accessible on Android via Google Play and iOS via TestFlight (with limited slots). Players can experience the first five chapters. Pre-registering on the official website rewards you with 10 Development Material Boxes, while Google Play pre-registration grants an exclusive costume for Zero.

While it's premature to declare Black Beacon a future gacha giant, the beta showcases a promising blend of compelling narrative, engaging combat, and strategic depth. We're eager to see its full release.
