Marvel Comics is set to reboot its Captain America monthly series, featuring a new creative team and a fresh narrative focusing on Steve Rogers' early days post-thaw. The storyline will even depict Cap's first encounter with Doctor Doom.
As announced at the ComicsPro retailer convention, the series will be penned by Chip Zdarsky (Batman, Daredevil) and illustrated by Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers), with colors by Frank D'Armata. This trio previously collaborated on Marvel's 2017 2-in-One.

The series begins shortly after Steve's rediscovery and reintegration into the modern Marvel universe. His initial mission, following his re-enlistment in the US Army, involves a collaboration with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate a Latveria recently seized by a young, ambitious Doctor Doom. While the series will eventually transition to contemporary Marvel events, this initial arc's impact will resonate throughout Zdarsky and Schiti's narrative.
Zdarsky stated, "Being a lifelong Captain America fan, writing the grizzled, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight was amazing, but helming the actual Captain America title is a dream come true! We're exploring Cap's early modern-era experiences with a surprising twist! I'm thrilled, especially with Valerio and Frank's incredible artwork!"
He continued, "My approach mirrors my Daredevil run – delving into Cap's psyche, offering a grounded, human perspective on his journey in this new world. Steve Rogers embodies the best of humanity, and I aim to reflect that on every page."
Schiti shared, "Captain America is a personal favorite. Reuniting with Chip and Frank after Marvel 2-In-One is fantastic, and this story balances heart, action, and entertainment perfectly! Surprisingly, I found myself focusing more on Steve Rogers than Captain America."
He added, "Chip's script is captivating; readers will connect deeply with Steve's inner world. He's the embodiment of truth, justice, and freedom. He fought Nazism, 'died,' and returned to fight again. That's immense pressure, especially considering he's only in his late twenties in this era!"
Captain America #1 launches July 2, 2025.
