Chocolate Cake Hint Sparks Switch 2 Rumors

Authore: NoahUpdate:Feb 19,2025

Six years have passed since Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece, Hollow Knight. During this time, fans have witnessed Silksong's sporadic appearances and disappearances at various gaming events, with Microsoft even seemingly confirming a pre-June 2023 release. The Game Awards came and went without a Silksong announcement. Could the recently announced Nintendo Switch 2 Direct finally be the platform for its reveal?

The Hollow Knight fanbase believes so, and it all stems from a picture of a cake. On January 15th, Team Cherry co-director William Pellen updated his Twitter/X profile picture to a chocolate cake image, accompanied by the tweet: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow."

With rumors circulating about a January 16th Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, Nintendo indeed unveiled the Switch 2 on that date. However, many questions remain about this next-gen console. Did Pellen's tweet allude to the Switch 2 announcement? If so, why?

This is where the Hollow Knight community's speculation exploded. Fans reverse-image searched the cake, tracing it back to a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe on Bon Appétit. The recipe's publication date? April 2nd, 2024.

The significance? Nintendo confirmed a Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 for Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025. Fans theorize Pellen initiated an alternate reality game (ARG) with the cake tweet, hinting at a Silksong reveal.

The speculation continues. Fans are analyzing Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr, with one compelling theory suggesting the "wr" could be part of a larger word, possibly relating to a Silksong NPC, the Druid of the Moss Temple. The 15-character handle limit further fuels this theory.

Adding to the mystery, Pellen adopted a new X/Twitter name: little bomey. While "Little Boomey" is a Southern Australian wine (Team Cherry's location), the slight spelling difference adds another layer of intrigue.

It's crucial to remember that Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement listed Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch as launch platforms. However, six years later, has Nintendo secured Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title, perhaps even a timed exclusive? Or is this simply fervent fan speculation driven by information scarcity?

We'll have answers in a few months. Until then, explore the announcements from Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal.
