Conquer the Iconic Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The Battle of Hulao Gate, a legendary clash in the Dynasty Warriors series, presents a formidable challenge in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This guide will help you overcome this crucial stage in Chapter 2. The objective: defeat Dong Zhuo.

Initial Strategy:

Begin by clearing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right corner. Conquering two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base-clearing strategy; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with a twin pike weapon.

Once all bases are secured, assault Hulao Gate. This initiates a major battle against Dong Zhuo's forces. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he unleashes his Grand Tactic, significantly weakening the enemy defenses.

Lu Bu's Arrival:

Dong Zhuo deploys Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. A one-on-one fight is suicidal. Instead, eliminate enemy officers on the periphery to maintain morale, which Lu Bu's presence heavily depletes.

Lu Bu will eventually target your main base and Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will temporarily contain Lu Bu, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time limit; if Liu Bei's forces are routed, Lu Bu will defeat Yuan Shao, ending the mission.

Defeating Dong Zhuo:

After Lu Bu's departure, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Capture the northern and western bases. With all three squads poised to attack and your health replenished, charge towards Dong Zhuo.

Dong Zhuo will employ two Grand Tactics involving fireballs. The first requires destroying two catapults. Use Musou Rage if available, clearing a path through soldiers to the catapults. Eliminate surrounding soldiers and officers to allow your forces to destroy the catapults.

The second Grand Tactic necessitates defeating an officer. Engage the officer via the right-hand stairs, but be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, a formidable opponent. Defeating her in a duel simplifies the encounter.

Once the Grand Tactics are neutralized, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should overwhelm his remaining troops. Dian Wei might even initiate a Grand Tactic, further easing your victory. While a duel is tempting, a standard defeat of Dong Zhuo is sufficient at this point.
