The acclaimed series Shōgun, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a highly anticipated second season. Cosmo Jarvis, known for his role as pilot John Blackthorn, has confirmed his return and will also serve as a co-executive producer for the new season, according to an official press release from FX.

Furthermore, Hiroyuki Sanada, who portrays lead character Lord Yoshii Toranaga, has been promoted to executive producer after initially joining the production team for the first season. Sanada committed to Season 2 last May following the show's renewal, which was surprising given its initial classification as a limited series. Production for Season 2 is slated to commence in Vancouver, the same location used for the original series, starting in January 2026.

FX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which was based on James Clavell’s novel. The network elaborated on the connection between the two seasons:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.

"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined."

Fans of the series can look forward to new episodes potentially by the end of 2026, but for now, anticipation and patience are the order of the day.
