A Night City Reunion?
In an interview with ScreenRant promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he and Reeves co-star), Idris Elba expressed his enthusiasm for a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation featuring himself and Keanu Reeves. He stated that such a film would be incredible, and the pairing of his character with Reeves' Johnny Silverhand would be electrifying. He even playfully suggested they "speak it into existence."
Reeves, of course, played the iconic Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, while Elba portrayed Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty DLC.
This isn't just wishful thinking. Variety reported in October 2023 that a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is in development, with CD Projekt Red partnering with Anonymous Content. While updates have been scarce since the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk live-action adaptation is a strong possibility.
More Cyberpunk on the Horizon
Beyond a potential live-action film, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. The prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched its first chapter in several languages, with more to come in 2025. The manga focuses on Rebecca and Pilar, before their involvement with Maine's crew.
Furthermore, a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Blu-ray release is planned for 2025, and CD Projekt Red has teased a new animated series. The future of Cyberpunk looks bright!
