Disney Lorcana enthusiasts have been treated to a wealth of new information about the future of this popular trading card game. The ninth set, titled "Fabled," is set to launch on September 5, 2025, and promises to introduce the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards, alongside the much-anticipated arrival of characters from "A Goofy Movie."

In addition to Fabled, details about the eighth set, "Reign of Jafar," were unveiled, set for release on June 6, 2025. A new Collection Starter Set was also announced, alongside information about the upcoming Disney Lorcana World Championship. Fans were also teased with glimpses of future content, including Darkwing Duck.

Let's dive into the exciting developments and ensure you're fully updated on what's coming next in the world of Disney Lorcana.

Fabled Will Add Iconic and Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Cards for Competitive Play

While specific details about Fabled are still forthcoming, the Disney Lorcana team has shared enough to make the wait until the pre-release on August 29 and the wide release on September 5 increasingly thrilling.

One of the most significant additions to Fabled will be cards from "A Goofy Movie," though exact card details remain under wraps. The team did reveal that Mickey and Minnie will feature as the first-ever Iconic Cards, which will be the rarest cards in Lorcana, with only two appearing per set. These cards will showcase Mickey and Minnie on a carousel, making them highly sought after by collectors and players alike.

Alongside Iconic Cards, Fabled will introduce Epic Cards, which are rarer than Legendary but not as scarce as Enchanted and Iconic cards. These cards will boast unique artwork and foil treatments, such as the new Elsa (Snow Queen) card, offering players more opportunities to acquire special cards.

A significant change with Fabled is the introduction of card rotation for competitive play. Cards from the first four sets will no longer be legal in Core Constructed, the highest level of competitive play. However, fans of older cards can still enjoy them in a new format called Infinity Constructed. Moreover, Fabled will include reprinted cards from earlier sets, such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), which will be fully usable in competitive play.

Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger, emphasized the importance of card rotation: “To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter. But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”

For newcomers, the Collection Starter Set offers an excellent entry point into Disney Lorcana. This set includes four Fabled booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card, a card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor), and a collector's guide.

Reign of Jafar Offers Aladdin and Bambi Cards Alongside a New Co-Op Adventure

Reign of Jafar, the eighth set, is scheduled for pre-release on May 30 and a wide release on June 6. This set continues the ongoing narrative featuring the Disney villain, Jafar.

The official description states: "Jafar now possesses the Hexwell Crown and, with it, he has corrupted Archazia’s Island to his wicked will. Traps and illusions abound in Reign of Jafar, and glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber will need to band together to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier."

Alongside the new set, fans can dive into Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a cooperative experience-in-a-box that allows four players to team up against Jafar and his minions. The set includes cards such as Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), and Aladdin (Vigilant Guard), among others.

Teases of the Future Include Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck

The team also revealed that the set following Fabled will be called "Whispers in the Well," slated for release in Q4 2025. Though details are scarce, the key art suggests the inclusion of Mickey, Ariel, and characters from Disney's Gargoyles, along with a new type of Glimmer.

Looking further ahead, fans' wishes for Darkwing Duck to join the game will be fulfilled in 2026.

Get Ready For the Disney Lorcana World Championship

The competitive scene in Lorcana is heating up with the Disney Lorcana World Championship set to take place on June 28 and 29 at Walt Disney World. Players from around the globe will compete for the title of the first annual Disney Lorcana TCG World Champion.

For those unable to attend, the event will be streamed live on Twitch.TV/DisneyLorcana, with commentary provided by a team of casters including Rebekah (RebekahQuests), Baker (LorcanaVillain), Liam (The Illumiteers), Brandon (Bsquared24), and JD (JDZ Quest). Additionally, there will be an opportunity to obtain a non-foil 'A Whole New World' promo card, with further details to be announced.
