Development of Dragon Quest XII continues, with creator Yuji Horii assuring fans that information will be revealed gradually. In a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed the Square Enix team is diligently working on the project.
This marks the first update since May 2024, following the passing of key figures Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama. The departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile game division had also fueled speculation.
Concerns regarding the game's cancellation, amid Square Enix restructuring and a lack of updates, have been addressed by Horii's statement. His comments strongly suggest Dragon Quest XII remains actively under development.
Announced during the franchise's 35th-anniversary celebrations, Dragon Quest XII will be the first main series installment since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Square Enix recently reported that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales projections, achieving 2 million copies sold.
