*Hey, Mary!* is penned by Andrew Wheeler, known for his work on *Cat Fight* and *Another Castle*, and illustrated by Rye Hickman, acclaimed for *The Harrowing* and *Bad Dream*. Here's the official synopsis from Oni Press:

*Mark is a devout Catholic boy. He attends church regularly, recites his prayers, and often worries about the concept of hell. When Mark discovers his feelings for another boy at school, he faces the challenge of aligning his emotions with his religious beliefs, burdened by centuries of shame and fear of his parents' disapproval. In search of guidance, Mark turns to his priest and a local drag performer, and even receives unexpected counsel from historical Catholic figures like Joan of Arc, Michelangelo, St. Sebastian, and Savonarola. Ultimately, Mark must determine if he can embrace both his Catholic faith and his sexuality.*

Andrew Wheeler shared with IGN, "*Hey, Mary!* explores the tension between queerness and Catholicism through the lens of Mark's teenage struggles. For those who are queer and Catholic, these tensions echo through centuries of art and expression. By focusing on Mark's journey, we hope to make these themes more relatable. This excerpt features Mark receiving an art history lesson from his artsy friend and crush, Luka, alongside a fantastical encounter with a renowned queer Catholic icon. It's both educational and entertaining, offering a unique perspective!"

Rye Hickman added, "A huge thanks to Hank Jones, our incredible colorist, for the vibrant colors on those turtles in the first page of the preview! *Hey, Mary!* is peppered with nods to art history, creating a kind of sequential Easter egg hunt. Religious iconography has been a significant influence of the Catholic Church throughout history. Whether it's Michelangelo's *The Pietà* or a lesser-known wood carving of Jesus on the cross, Catholic imagery is powerful, evocative, and often laden with emotional intensity—and sometimes, a sexual undercurrent that can be challenging to reconcile."

Wheeler further commented, "Incorporating Catholic art references into the narrative was a joy, and Rye's execution is superb. These references enhance the visual storytelling for those who recognize them, but they also enrich the experience for all readers."
