Sony's PC gaming policy sparks gamer backlash. The company's requirement for PSN tethering, even in single-player titles, coupled with regional service limitations, restricts the sale of recent releases.
Sony recently announced policy adjustments. While PSN tethering for PC remains, several concessions have been made. PSN tethering will be optional for the following games:
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2
- God of War Ragnarök
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
Players opting for PSN tethering will receive these bonuses:
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early access to the "2099" suit line for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
- God of War Ragnarök: The Black Bear armor set, early access to the "Lost Things" chest, and resource packs.
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Bonus points for unlocking features.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant costume.
In a November investor call, COO Hiroki Totoki acknowledged the backlash against PSN connection requirements, citing security and order as justification. While he referenced service-based games, he failed to clarify how mandating PSN accounts enhances security in single-player games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarök.
The gaming landscape has changed.
