13$3,799.99 save 13%$3,299.99 at AlienwareThe primary difference between the two Area-51 gaming laptops lies in their screens. The 16" model features a 2560x1600 240Hz IPS display, while the 18" model boasts a larger 2560x1600 300Hz IPS display. The larger 18" model also includes a dedicated numpad and improved cooling. Both configurations come equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, 64GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a 2TB SSD. The 64GB of RAM is a significant upgrade, as these laptops typically come with 32GB at this price point.
This CPU / GPU Combo Excels in Any Game
The Area-51 laptop is powered by a highly efficient CPU. The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX achieves a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz with 24 cores and a 40MB L2 cache. According to Passmark, it outperforms the market's fastest laptop processor, the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, by a solid 7%.
Tom's Hardware reports that the RTX 5080 mobile GPU is approximately 15%-20% more powerful than its predecessor, the RTX 4080 mobile GPU, and even outperforms the RTX 4090 by about 5%. Despite being nearly $1,000 less expensive than the RTX 5090, it only lags behind by around 15%, making it a more cost-effective choice. With the Alienware Area-51's QHD+ (2560x1600) display, this GPU is well-equipped to handle new and upcoming games at high frame rates, especially with the support of DLSS 4.
The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling
The 2025 Alienware Area-51 gaming laptop features a magnesium alloy chassis with advanced cooling to manage the heat generated by its powerful components. This includes additional fans, larger cutouts for improved airflow, increased use of copper, and a new thermal interface material for better heat dissipation. Dell claims the laptop can handle a higher power ceiling of up to 240W TDP without increasing noise levels.
In terms of design, the Area-51 sports smooth contours with rounded edges and soft corners, a departure from the typical squared-off designs. The hinges are mostly internal, creating a nearly invisible appearance. True to Alienware's style, there are numerous customization options for RGB LED lighting. Connectivity options include three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt / USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a card reader. The 16" model weighs 7.5 pounds, while the 18" model weighs 9.6 pounds.
