Genki at CES: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup
Genki, renowned for its handheld gaming accessories, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing key design features and confirming several rumors. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions and showcases several significant changes.
The mockup highlighted a larger form factor, approaching the size of Valve's Steam Deck. Key features included seemingly magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new "C" button of unknown function.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge. While the SL and SR buttons utilize magnets, a release mechanism ensures secure attachment during gameplay. Each Joy-Con's mounting channel also incorporates an optical sensor, hinting at potential mouse functionality via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked Switch 2 images appear to support this.
Further insights from Genki revealed that, despite its increased size, the Switch 2 remains thin enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, design differences prevent compatibility. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain a mystery.
