Gotham Knights: A Potential Nintendo Switch 2 Release?

Speculation is swirling that Gotham Knights could be among the third-party titles launching on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. This intriguing possibility stems from a game developer's resume, as highlighted by YouTuber Doctre81 on January 5, 2025.

The resume, belonging to a developer formerly with QLOC (2018-2023), lists several notable titles including Mortal Kombat 11 and Tales of Vesperia. Crucially, it also includes Gotham Knights, specifying its development for two unreleased platforms.

While one platform could be the original Nintendo Switch (given a past ESRB rating, since removed), the game's performance challenges on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S cast doubt on this. The second unreleased platform strongly suggests the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

It's important to note: no official confirmation exists from Warner Bros. Games or Nintendo. However, with the Nintendo Switch 2 being the only major unreleased console currently anticipated, the possibility remains compelling.

Previous Switch Release Rumors and ESRB Rating

Initially released in October 2022 for PS5, Windows, and Xbox Series X, Gotham Knights reportedly received an ESRB rating for the original Nintendo Switch, fueling speculation of a release and potential Nintendo Direct appearance. This rating has since been removed from the ESRB website.

The absence of a Switch release then, combined with the recent YouTube report and the previous ESRB rating, lends further weight to the possibility of a Switch 2 launch.

Nintendo Switch 2: Backwards Compatibility and Official Announcements

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa's May 7, 2024 Twitter announcement promised further details on the Switch's successor "within this fiscal year" – a timeframe nearing its conclusion in March 2025. A subsequent tweet confirmed backwards compatibility with original Switch software and Nintendo Switch Online. The use of physical cartridges remains unconfirmed.
