IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong—the long-awaited game will be playable at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. Team Cherry, the Adelaide-based studio behind the game, has kept the gaming community on the edge of their seats with a release window set for 2025, and this museum event marks a significant milestone.

The playable demo will be part of ACMI's "Game Worlds" exhibition, which will also feature deep dives into Silksong's intricate design and artistic direction. Visitors will have the chance to explore the hundreds of sprites that animate the protagonist Hornet's movements and attacks, as well as the logic behind the game's challenging boss fights.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their enthusiasm, stating, "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, which will be on display during the exhibition. The image, provided to IGN with permission, offers a glimpse into the game's detailed design.

With Silksong set to be playable at ACMI in September, fans are speculating about a potential release date earlier in the year, perhaps as soon as August. The anticipation continues to build, especially after Silksong made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, confirming the 2025 release window and offering a fleeting glimpse of new gameplay.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with versions for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 added later. The game has been at the center of various teases over the years, including a mysterious chocolate cake recipe hint at the start of 2025, which fueled hopes for an April re-reveal. As the excitement grows, the gaming community eagerly awaits more updates on this highly anticipated title.
