Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the former DCEU, will bring his unique brand of intensity to the rebooted DC Universe as the iconic Lobo in the upcoming 2026 film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. This marks a significant transition for the actor, who has openly expressed his long-held desire to portray the character, citing a strong aesthetic connection. Lobo, the last survivor of the planet Czarnia, is a formidable interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter possessing superhuman strength and immortality. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, he first appeared in Omega Men #3 (1983).
Momoa, in a recent interview with ScreenRant, offered a tantalizing glimpse into Lobo's role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. While he emphasized the film's focus on Supergirl, he confirmed that Lobo's appearance will be impactful, if brief. He highlighted the accuracy of his portrayal, describing the character as "rough and gruff," and teased the coolness of Lobo's signature motorcycle. He confirmed that his screen time will be limited, stating, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
DC co-chief James Gunn previously shared a first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl via Bluesky, announcing the commencement of filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The film is heavily inspired by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's graphic novel of the same name. The story centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl seeking revenge for her father's murder, who enlists Supergirl's aid against the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.
The film boasts a strong supporting cast including Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for a June 2026 release, is the second installment in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman this summer and preceding the Clayface movie in September 2026.
