Marvel's Avengers Assemble: Introducing the New Team in 'Doomsday' and 'Secret Wars'

Authore: AudreyUpdate:Feb 19,2025

The MCU has undergone significant changes since Avengers: Endgame, most notably the absence of a unified Avengers team. While new heroes are emerging to fill the void left by Iron Man and Captain America, a full-fledged Avengers movie remains some time off. Even Captain America: Brave New World avoids a complete reunion of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

A proper Avengers team-up is only slated for the end of Phase 6, with Avengers: Doomsday in 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. But who will answer the call? Let's examine the likely candidates for Phase 6's Avengers roster.

The Next Generation of Avengers

Following Tony Stark and Steve Rogers' departures, Benedict Wong's Wong has become a pivotal figure in Phases 4 and 5, acting as a unifying force. His appearances across numerous post-Endgame projects solidify his importance. Having inherited the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme, Wong's proactive defense of Earth against emerging threats makes his inclusion in the next Avengers iteration almost certain.

Shang-Chi

Simu Liu's Shang-Chi's presence in Phase 6's Avengers is highly probable. His summons by Wong in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, coupled with Destin Daniel Cretton's initial involvement with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, strongly suggests significant plans for Shang-Chi's future. His mastery of the Ten Rings makes him a valuable asset. The mid-credits scene in Shang-Chi hints at a larger mystery surrounding these artifacts, potentially playing a role in Avengers: Doomsday.

PlayDoctor Strange

While Wong is now Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen Strange's expertise in magic and the multiverse remains crucial. His current involvement in another universe addressing incursions with Clea suggests a delayed return, but his contribution to the Avengers' fight against Doctor Doom is anticipated.

Captain America

Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, is essential to any Avengers lineup. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Captain America: Brave New World showcase his evolution into the role, culminating in his readiness to lead a new Avengers team. His leadership skills and ability to unite the team will be tested in Doomsday and Secret Wars.

PlayWar Machine

Don Cheadle's War Machine is poised for a more prominent solo role in the Multiverse Saga, particularly in Armor Wars. However, his experience and firepower make him a natural fit for the Avengers, filling the void left by Iron Man.

Ironheart

Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams, Ironheart, is a strong contender to become the MCU's new Iron Man. Her debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and her upcoming solo series establish her capabilities. Her intellect and technological prowess will be invaluable assets against powerful adversaries like Doctor Doom.

Spider-Man

Tom Holland's Spider-Man remains a flagship MCU hero, despite his choice for anonymity. His involvement in Doomsday and Secret Wars seems likely, unless further conflicts arise between Marvel Studios and Sony. The mystery surrounding the world's forgotten knowledge of his identity adds intrigue.

She-Hulk

While Mark Ruffalo's Hulk will likely have a role, Tatiana Maslany's She-Hulk is emerging as a powerful Avenger. Her intelligence, strength, and unique personality make her a strong addition.

PlayThe Marvels

Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan, having formed their own team in The Marvels, are expected to play significant roles in the upcoming Avengers films. Captain Marvel's leadership and the mysteries surrounding Monica's powers and Kamala's aspirations for the Young Avengers suggest their crucial involvement.

A Larger-Than-Life Avengers Roster?

The potential Avengers roster for Doomsday could be significantly larger than the original six. While this scale is seen in the comics, the MCU may adopt a system of multiple teams or smaller task forces.

Hawkeye & Kate Bishop

The Avengers need skilled archers, and both Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop could fill that need. Despite Renner's recent accident, his return is possible. Kate's inclusion is also likely, given her interaction with Kamala in The Marvels.

Thor

Thor, as a veteran Avenger, is likely to remain a key member, especially given his position at the end of Thor: Love and Thunder. The Secret Wars storyline might introduce multiple Thors.

PlayThe Ant-Man Family

Given the Quantumania's importance to the Kang storyline, Ant-Man, Wasp, and Stature are likely to be involved in Doomsday, given the continued significance of the Quantum Realm.

PlayStar-Lord

While the Guardians of the Galaxy's involvement is uncertain, Star-Lord's return to Earth at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 suggests a possible role in Doomsday.

PlayBlack Panther

Shuri's Black Panther, along with M'Baku, will likely continue to support the Avengers, given Wakanda's resources and technological capabilities.
