NIKKE Evangelion Collab Disappoints Players

Shift Up's Goddess of Victory: NIKKE Evangelion collaboration fell short of expectations, according to a recent interview with the game's producer. The August 2024 crossover, featuring Rei, Asuka, Mari, and Misato, failed to resonate with players despite attempts to stay true to the original character designs.

The Collaboration's Shortcomings:

The initial character designs, created collaboratively by Shift Up and the Nikke team, were deemed too suggestive by Evangelion's creators. Subsequent modifications, while satisfying the licensors, lacked the appeal needed to excite the player base. The resulting designs, particularly Asuka's premium gacha skin, were considered too similar to her default appearance, offering insufficient incentive for players to spend.

Player Feedback and Future Implications:

The lukewarm reception wasn't solely attributed to the character designs. Players felt a lack of compelling reasons to invest in limited-time characters and costumes, especially when the aesthetic additions were minimal. The collaboration's extended duration also contributed to player fatigue. Shift Up acknowledges this feedback and aims to improve future collaborations.

The core strengths of Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, its distinctive anime aesthetic and engaging narrative, were overshadowed by the uninspired collaboration. The producer hopes to rectify this in upcoming content updates.
