Nintendo's Surprise: An Interactive Alarm Clock and a Switch Online Playtest
Forget your 2024 predictions – Nintendo just dropped a new interactive alarm clock! The Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, priced at $99, uses game sounds to rouse you from slumber. It's not just any alarm; it's designed to make you feel like you're waking up inside a Nintendo game.
Alarmo: Wake Up to the Sounds of Victory!
Featuring sounds inspired by Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, and more, with free updates promised, the Alarmo uses a unique radio wave sensor to detect your movements. It won't stop its cheerful (or increasingly insistent!) tune until you're out of bed. A gentle wave of your hand will quieten the alarm, but prolonged slumber will only increase its intensity. Unlike camera-based solutions, the radio wave technology ensures better privacy and works even in dark rooms or with obstacles. Nintendo developer Tetsuya Akama highlights the sensitivity of the sensor, detecting even subtle movements.
A limited-time early-access purchase window is available for Nintendo Switch Online members in the US and Canada via the My Nintendo Store. The Nintendo New York store will also offer in-person purchases at launch.
Mystery Playtest for Nintendo Switch Online
Beyond the Alarmo, Nintendo announced a Switch Online playtest, open for applications from October 10th (8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET) to October 15th (7:59 AM PT / 10:59 AM ET). Up to 10,000 participants will be selected globally, with non-Japanese applicants chosen on a first-come, first-served basis.
To apply, you'll need:

The playtest itself runs from October 23rd (6:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM ET) to November 5th (4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET). The nature of the new feature being tested remains shrouded in secrecy, adding to the excitement.
