Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con is indeed the C button, as previously speculated.
The confirmation comes from the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, whose App Store and Google Play listings feature an image that clearly reveals the "C" designation upon closer inspection.

The button's purpose remains a hot topic of discussion. Theories range from enabling wireless TV casting and screen sharing functionality to serving as a mode-switching button (potentially for mouse functionality). Some speculate it might facilitate new voice or group chat features.
Nintendo has announced a Switch 2 Direct presentation scheduled for April 2, which should provide official details about the console's features. Here's what we currently know about the Switch 2:
- Scheduled for release in 2025 (possibly after June based on event schedules)
- Larger than the original Switch with bigger Joy-Con controllers that appear to support mouse functionality
- Features two USB-C ports (top and bottom) compared to the original's single port
- Maintains backward compatibility with most physical and digital Switch games
- Will have exclusive Switch 2 titles, including a new Mario Kart game
