Bethesda has officially launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, surprising fans with its immediate availability. During their recent livestream, the developers showcased significant enhancements over the original game, yet one major aspect disappointed the community: the absence of official mod support.
According to Bethesda's support page, Oblivion Remastered will not include official modding capabilities. This decision comes as a shock, especially given Bethesda's history of robust support for the modding community, having released official modding tools like Creation Kits for titles such as Fallout 4, Skyrim, and Starfield. No specific reasons were provided for this choice, leaving fans puzzled and somewhat disheartened.
Despite the lack of official support, the modding community remains undeterred. Enthusiasts are currently using the old Creation Kit from the original game to integrate their mods into the remaster. On platforms like Reddit, modders are actively discussing and sharing strategies for modding the game, which now operates on Unreal Engine 5.
In an exciting development, fans have also begun exploring Oblivion Remastered in VR, just three hours after its release. Using UEVR, a tool designed to convert games for VR compatibility, YouTuber LunchAndVR shared a video of their early tests playing the game with VR and motion controls. The footage, running at 70 fps on a setup with medium graphics settings, DLSS enabled, a GeForce RTX 4090, an Intel Core i9-13900, and 64GB of RAM, suggests that with further optimization, Oblivion Remastered could offer a compelling VR experience.
