A Pokémon player is experiencing unexpected viral fame due to an incessant barrage of calls from two persistent NPCs. A short video showcases the player, seemingly trapped, as two characters relentlessly spam their in-game phone.
Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced a phone feature allowing players to save contact information for certain NPCs after battles. These NPCs may then call, offering friendly updates, story developments, or rematch opportunities. However, this player's experience is far from typical; they're caught in an endless loop of calls from two enthusiastic trainers.
Pokémon enthusiast FodderWadder posted a clip showing them cornered in a Pokémon Center within a classic Game Boy title. The video opens with a call from Wade the Bug Catcher, detailing his Caterpie training and a recent Pidgey encounter. Before the player can react, Youngster Joey calls, requesting a rematch on Route 30.
The Unending Calls
While two calls in quick succession might be normal, the issue quickly escalates. After Joey's call, he immediately rings again, repeating his previous message. Then, Wade calls back, presumably delivering the same update as before.
The cause of this relentless calling spree remains unclear. Youngster Joey and the Pokémon Gold and Silver call system are known for repetitive calls, but this level of persistence is unusual. FodderWadder suspects a save file glitch. Other players found the situation humorous, suggesting the NPCs are simply eager for conversation.
Though deleting numbers is possible in the original games, calls are automatically answered. FodderWadder eventually escaped the onslaught, but found it challenging to navigate the constant interruptions to access the menu, delete the numbers, and finally leave the Pokémon Center. The ordeal has understandably left them hesitant to add any new contacts, fearing a repeat of the endless call loop.
