Get ready, Power Rangers fans! A new live-action series is reportedly heading to Disney+.

According to The Wrap, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the showrunners behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians, are in negotiations to write, showrun, and produce a live-action Power Rangers series for Disney+ and 20th Century Television. Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers franchise, aims to revitalize the series for a new generation while retaining the appeal for longtime fans.

The 90s television show, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, holds a special place in the hearts of many, who grew up idolizing the teenage heroes and their incredible mecha. The series’ impact is undeniable.

Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers franchise, along with other Saban properties, in a $522 million deal in 2018. At the time, Hasbro expressed confidence in the franchise's potential for significant growth across various platforms, including toys, consumer products, digital gaming, and entertainment.

“We see significant opportunity for Power Rangers across our entire Brand Blueprint, including toys and games, consumer products, digital gaming and entertainment, as well as geographically throughout our global retail footprint,” stated Brian Goldner, Hasbro’s former chairman and CEO.

This new series follows the less-than-successful 2017 film reboot, which attempted a grittier approach but ultimately failed to launch a planned franchise. The subsequent sale of the rights to Hasbro marked a turning point for the Power Rangers franchise.

Hasbro is also actively involved in other exciting projects, including a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series (The Forgotten Realms) for Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series (also for Netflix), and a planned Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe.
